BRAGE'S DOG RUN FOR ONE DAY - 30km
Øytjernsætervegen 212, 2880 Nord-Torpa
English, Norwegian
Be a dog walker for a day with us, in the beautiful mountain area of Synnfjellet, Innlandet in Norway. If you want to go up and over the tree line, you have to go on such a long trip like this one. Our happy huskies are only an hour from Lillehammer, and about three hours from Oslo, ready to take you on an adventure you will soon forget. You get to handle your own doggie bucket. Maybe dog sledding is on your bucketlist? Children who are used to long walks in the winter mountains can join, but recommend that they have tried dog sledding before! This is a perfect gift idea for adventurers! Since we are a small family business, our vision is different and in practice cannot offer anything big. This will then often attract small groups. We can accommodate up to 2 adults on this tour. I also have a children's sled, but I recommend on this trip, only children who have tried dog sledding before. If you're a larger group, you'll have to look at Castello's taste in dog-sledding. We also only take one booking per trip. Which means. If there is only one person in the order. Only one will join us. if there are two. Two will join us, if there are four or five. You get the picture! This makes it easier for me to focus on the skills and level of the group and introverts dry maybe asking questions when they are in a group they know. In addition, it will be less stressful for the dogs. We stay together all the time on our journey. You get to participate in most of the work that needs to be done before and after the trip. For in my eyes, life is not served on a platter. And people understand more of everything that needs to be done if they get to experience all aspects of being a dog handler. If you wish one can stay behind after the trip and cuddle with the dogs, we have a couple of retired sled dogs and puppies at the kennel that deserve attention. Hot drinks and homemade biscuits are served. We can and do fire up the bonfire pan. Currently we don't have much to offer for clothing, so make sure you read tips for dressing for our dog walking tours. It is better to bring a little extra in the sleigh, than to freeze because you underestimate the weather and temperature.
What is included
We like to compare ourselves to a hotel. In a hotel, everything is served on a platter. This is what you will get on most dog walking experiences. While we are more like a campground where everyone takes part to have an amazing experience. Hot food is included in the experience. The weather will determine whether we eat the food up in the mountains or take the food after the trip. Therefore, you may want to bring some snacks and drinks if you want extra fuel during the trip in case the food is taken after the trip. Join the watering of the dogs at start time. After watering we have training on how to handle a sled and harness on dogs. We harness the dogs and get them into their places in their pails. We head out on a memorable trip. Back in the doghouse, we praise the dogs and thank them for the trip before helping them back to their doghouses and taking off their harnesses. Once this is done, people can choose for themselves. You may think the experience so far is good enough and travel. Of course, it depends on whether the hot food is taken in the mountains or whether it will be after the trip. Anyway, the offer is that we chat around the campfire, drink hot drinks and eat homemade biscuits and possibly hot food.
Practical information
TIPS FOR DRESSING! As we say here in Norway: “There is no bad weather, only bad clothes.” Here are some tips and recommendations on winter clothes to keep you warm on your trips: 1. Inner layer: should be something that breathes, I recommend wool. Do not use cotton! 2. Thicker layers: I recommend wool, but you can also use fleece. 3. Last layer: windproof jacket and trousers, sometimes waterproof too, in a gentle state, but remember that it must be breathable material. Recommend a good cap where it goes in front of the face. This gives you the best protection for your face 4. A thicker jacket is fine to bring along as you can adjust by taking the jacket on and off. Here I wear a down jacket but a quilted winter jacket or parkas is and fine. This is especially wise for the long hikes, peak walks, snow mountain, overnight trips. A good hood that goes in front of the face is and something to think about as hoods (especially with fur trim) stop wind cooling the face. (I have a pair of parkas I can borrow!) 5. Woolen socks, maybe even two, if the shoes allow. If it is too tight, it will have the opposite effect. Important with the possibility of movement of the legs otherwise they will be cold. 6. Good winter boots that are tight and not too tight! 7. Good warm and windproof hat and mittens. Do not wear gloves! I recommend wearing thin wool gloves to use inside the mittens or keep it in your pockets, for use when handling the dogs. 8. Wool neck/neck to cover the anskite for weather and wind. 9. Snow goggles, not a must, but I recommend if it is very windy and snowy at the same time.
