TEDDY BEAR'S WILDERNESS TOUR - 2 DAYS
Øytjernsætervegen 212, 2880 Nord-Torpa
English, Norwegian
Two days of adventure, interaction and wilderness! This tour gives you a unique opportunity to learn dog sledding from scratch, while navigating through magnificent scenery. But dog sledding is more than standing behind the sled -- it's also about taking care of the dogs, who are the real heroes of the trip. Actively participating in the daily routines, from grooming to feeding, provides a deeper understanding and a rewarding experience.
At the end of the day, a cozy cabin awaits you in the mountains, where you can enjoy the tranquility and reflect on the adventures of the day. This is an experience that combines learning, mastery and nature experiences — perfect for everyone, regardless of experience.
Please note: Accommodation in tents may be required if weather or snow conditions so require.
**DAY 1: ** We start the morning with a meeting at the kennel, where you will receive an in-depth introduction and training to the tour. Once all your gear is packed and ready, you can prepare for a true wilderness experience — without electricity, Wi-Fi and other modern living conditions.
We start in forest terrain and light conditions so that you get to know the control and interaction between you and the dogs. We take a short walk through Langsua National Park. A little depending on when in the winter season and when we get on our way with the dog sled, but it can be dusky/dark when we arrive at the cabin. The weather will tell whether we choose a cabin in the mountains or down in the valley. Regardless of the cabin we take care of the dog heroes and make sure that they are well before we find ourselves comfortable in the cabin, fill the body with good food and recover and are ready for another wonderful day out in the mountains.
**DAY 2: ** After filling up the tank with a hearty breakfast for both the dogs and us, we pack up and head home which will then take us over Synnfjellet.
Back in the doghouse, we catch up with our canine heroes. Once everything is cleared and in place, one can choose to move around and home, or have a little chat about the trip and a meal around a campfire in our lavvo before leaving.
If you have a long journey, we can recommend renting a cabin in the mountains, as attendance can be as early as 09.30. We can either arrange a cabin rental for you where there will be an addition in the price, or we can give you tips so that you can arrange a cabin rental yourself.
This experience is for 2 people only!
**TIPS FOR DRESSING! **
As we say here in Norway: “There is no bad weather, only bad clothes.”
Here are some tips and recommendations on winter clothes to keep you warm on your trips:
1. Inner layer: should be something that breathes, I recommend wool. Do not use cotton!
2. Thicker layers: I recommend wool, but you can also use fleece.
3. Last layer: windproof jacket and trousers, sometimes waterproof too, in a gentle state, but remember that it must be breathable material. Recommend a good cap where it goes in front of the face. This gives you the best protection for your face
4. A thicker jacket is fine to bring along as you can adjust by taking the jacket on and off. Here I wear a down jacket but a quilted winter jacket or parkas is and fine. This is especially wise for the long hikes, peak walks, snow mountain, overnight trips. A good hood that goes in front of the face is and something to think about as hoods (especially with fur trim) stop wind cooling the face. (I have a pair of parkas I can borrow!)
5. Woolen socks, maybe even two, if the shoes allow. If it is too tight, it will have the opposite effect. Important with the possibility of movement of the legs otherwise they will be cold.
6. Good winter boots that are tight and not too tight!
7. Good warm and windproof hat and mittens. Do not wear gloves! I recommend wearing thin wool gloves to use inside the mittens or keep it in your pockets, for use when handling the dogs.
8. Wool neck/neck to cover the anskite for weather and wind.
9. Snow goggles, not a must, but I recommend if it is very windy and snowy at the same time.
